Decanter

Like the regular format from the Lévêque family, this wine shows off appealing lemon and lime aromas and flavors, as well as basswood, acacia, and a more pronounced white peach. Oak aging with lees stirring adds richness and a tasty, toasty character that makes the wine ideal for richer gastronomy.

Juicy, fresh, and crisp yellow citrus, flowers, and pineapples are easy to pick up on the nose. The palate is sweet, ripe, energetic, and fresh, with loads of juicy yellow citrus in the creamy finish. Drink from 2025–2032. 92 pts.

Excellent quality, citrus, poached pear, saffron, white peach, great stuff. Aging on fine lees in 50% new oak barrels, with regular lees stirring. Tasted twice, Hubert de Boüard consultancy.

The bouquet shows superb intensity, perfectly combining notes of passion fruit, mango and quince, enhanced by refreshing menthol nuances. Driven by a nicely dense texture, the wine unfolds seamlessly and benefits from subtle bitter notes that shape its expression and aromatic persistence. A very fine success. A wine to be enjoyed at the table.

The nose is fruity, fresh and straightforward, offering a structured feel with notes of quince, crushed yellow apple and, more subtly, kumquat, joined by a touch of physalis and citrus, as well as discreet toasted hints, flowers and verbena. The palate is fruity, delivering juiciness, freshness, smoothness, suppleness, lovely definition, finesse and energy, with a fine, chiseled edge. It shows notes of lychee, juicy quenette and, more lightly, tangy/juicy white peach, combined with touches of crisp apple, white flowers, zest and lemon. Good length. A subtle hint of toasted almond and fresh toast, almost buttery, with exotic fruit in the background.

The 2023 Cuvée Caroline, the château's top white, offers up hints of peach, chamomile, dried flowers, sage, mint and herbs. Light tropical inflections open on the mid-palate and finish, adding layers of dimension and complexity.

Medium gold-hued, the 2023 Château De Chantegrive Caroline Blanc has terrific aromatics of ripe stone and tropical fruits as well as minty herbs and a kiss of spice. Based on 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 45% Sémillon, and 5% Sauvignon Gris and aged nine months in 50% new French oak with the balance in one-year-old barrels, it's medium-bodied and has a nicely balanced, richer mouthfeel and a great finish. It's geared for the dinner table and should keep for 2-4 years or so. There are 5,500 cases produced. Drink 2026-2029.

A mineral and complex white wine from Graves

The property

Established in 1966, the Château de Chantegrive is part of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. Certified HVE level 3, this family property passionately and precisely manages its vineyard to produce great wines from Graves.

The vineyard

The vineyard that produces the "Caroline" 2023 cuvée from Château de Chantegrive, a white wine from this Graves estate, extends over 11 hectares of vines planted on gravel, rolled pebbles, fine sands and clay-limestone soils.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a double sorting on the table. Pneumatic pressing under nitrogen and rigorous selection of juices. Cold static settling for 24 hours is followed by fermentation in barrels on fine lees (50% new barrels), as is the ageing for 9 months, accompanied by regular stirring.

Blend

Sauvignon Blanc (50%)
Sémillon (45%)
Sauvignon gris (5%).
