Decanter

Gorgeous fragrant and coo blueberry elements on the nose. Juicy and sleek, this has such crystalline purity to it - really focused and fresh with bite and tang. Tannins are fine and give slight edges to the palate accentuating it’s streamlined aspects but the acidity and freshness last all the way through to a long finish. Great stuff here, so finessed and polished and moreishly juicy. Yield of 40hl/ha.

Cinnamon, chocolate, plums, espresso, and black cherry aromas pop in the perfume. On the palate, the wine is dark, lush, round, creamy, and sweet, with an opulent character in the polished, fruit-packed finish. The blend is 77% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2028-2045. 92-94 Pts

Vines from the north-facing slope of this excellent estate, compelling grip and character. They do such a good job of harnessing power, and delivering it as precision and lift. It's a wine that is full of bristling promise, and one to check back in on over ageing - blackberry, crayon, pomegranate, will soften and widen further over the next year in barrel. Harvest September 8 to 22. 50% new oak. 40 hl/ha yield.

The freshness of the clay-limestone terroir paired with the ripeness of the Merlot is beautifully achieved! Inviting notes of peony mingle with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and Sichuan pepper, adding spice and lift to the whole. Dense on the attack, the wine stands out for its linear, elegant profile—without too much breadth, yet with more than enough power. The acidic structure enhances the freshness and even brings a sparkling touch. In this way, the balance already suggested by the bouquet is clearly echoed on the palate. A convincing wine with a decidedly modern feel!

Deep, almost black color with purplish highlights. Moderately intense nose, with ripe blackberry and spice aromas. Broad on the attack and juicy on the mid-palate, with volume and a very flavorsome body, the wine develops into a very fruity, deep finish. Lovely, well-knit persistence and, above all, highly aromatic. Blend: 77% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol: 13.8% - pH: 3.4. Yield: 40 hl/ha before selection. Production: 100,000 bottles. Harvest: September 8 to 22.

Vinum

Finely scented, subtle and floral on the nose, with depth, mineral notes, plenty of cherry and a hint of lavender; a linear palate, very precise, with juicy fruit and fine tannins; a salty finish. Perhaps the most elegant Fleur Cardinal ever?

Description

The structure and richness of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

The estate

The Château Fleur Cardinale, located in Saint-Émilion, was taken over in 2001 by Dominique and Florence Decoster, former porcelain industrialists. The family management of this estate, promoted to Grand Cru Classé in 2006, is carried out by Caroline and Ludovic Decoster, ensuring a continuity that combines tradition and innovation. Fully committed to a responsible environmental approach, the estate has been certified High Environmental Value since 2016. The uniqueness of the terroir and the rigorous oenological work ensure the production of high-quality wines from the right bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Fleur Cardinale extends over 24.19 hectares of clay-limestone soils characteristic of Saint-Émilion. The average age of the vines is 37 years.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates, then subjected to rigorous sorting directly in the vineyard. After destemming, a densimetric sorting precedes a final manual sorting. Vatting is carried out by gravity, followed by a short pre-fermentation maceration under bio-protection. Vatting lasts 20 to 26 days. Vinification is conducted entirely in 20 truncated conical vats and 12 temperature-controlled barrels, with extraction by pumping over and gentle maceration at the end of vatting. Ageing is then carried out 27% in new 600-litre demi-muids, 22% in new 225-litre barrels, 21% in 600-litre demi-muids that have held one previous wine, 19% in 225-litre barrels that have held one previous wine, 8% in 30-hl foudres and 3% in 7.5-hl terracotta amphorae.
