Description
A silky and aromatic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
As a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, Château Franc Mayne benefits from an exceptional location within the prestigious appellation. Owned by the Savare family since 2018, Château Franc Mayne has been revitalized with a renewed dynamism. The estate is characterized by its wine style, showcasing the expression of the Saint-Émilion terroir and remarkable freshness.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Franc Mayne covers 7 hectares of vines, 5.68 hectares of which are in production, beautifully located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The vines, averaging 20 years of age, are planted on hillsides in clay and clay-sand soils.
The vintage
2020 was a challenging vintage for both the vineyard and the teams working it amid the estate's transition to organic farming. Significant spring humidity led to very high phytosanitary pressure. Although the subsequent exceptionally hot and dry conditions up to the harvest affected the vineyard, the teams’ efforts to support the vine cycle and preserve the crop proved invaluable. The grapes harvested are of high quality and highlight the richness and full potential of Château Franc Mayne's terroir.
Vinification and aging
Aged in barrels (50% new barrels, 50% in large wooden vats, amphorae and one-wine barrels).
Grape variety
100% Merlot.
