Wine Enthusiast

Roger Voss

From a property owned by Patrick Bernard of négociant Millésima, this shows the results of considerable investment during the recent years. The wood dominates at this early stage, but it also shows complex fruit to balance the spice and toast flavors.

Robert Parker

Robert M. Parker, Jr.

This very reliable estate made their 2010 from a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the rest small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Some roasted herbs, damp earth, interwoven with red and black currants, cherries and spice box are all present in this classic Bordeaux, which exhibits medium body, good density and plenty of balance and elegance. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. A member of the Alliance des Cru Bourgeois du Medoc.

Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Rock solid, with a gutsy frame of roasted apple wood and a full-bodied core of plum, boysenberry and black currant fruit. Dense and chewy, displaying spice-studded grip on the finish that courses along vivaciously. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020. 15,627 cases made, 45 cases imported.

Decanter

Weighty, extracted yet nicely rounded, with alluring notes of grilled nuts, saffron and black pepper spice. Drinks well now with food.

James Suckling

Blackberry and blueberry character. Currants too. Full body, lots of velvety tannins and a long and intense finish. Solid here. Better in 2016.

Dark ruby with a purple core. The nose offers dark berries, cassis and some herbal notes. The palate is firmly built with high acidity and pronounced tannins, elegant dark fruit, some herbal notes on the finish, medium to long aftertaste.

Deep purple-garnet. Lots of flesh on the palate, dense body, great tannins, aromatic finish. Rarely this good.

Deep purple-garnet, dense at the core, with a violet sheen on the rim. Beautiful blackberry bouquet, lovely spice. Lots of flesh on the palate with a dense body, great tannins, aromatic finish. Seldom this good.

Herbal, broad, alcoholic bouquet, black berries, coal. Powerful, bourgeois palate with plenty of tannin, medium fruit, dark aromatics, dry finish. 17/20 2017 - 2028

Le Figaro Vin

Supple and fresh, red fruit, light yet present tannins.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark red color with good intensity. Moderately intense nose with very ripe fruit. This is one of the most complete palates I know for this cru. Rich, it evolves toward a finish with present tannins, wrapped, which age will soften. Very good.

Description

A structured and aromatic red wine from the Haut-Médoc appellation

The estate

Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, on the doorstep of Pauillac, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a lush green setting. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone significant restructuring and modernization, both in the vineyard and the cellar. This fine Haut-Médoc reference produces wines that are representative of the appellation, elegant and powerful, with superb aging potential.

The vineyard

In the commune of Saint-Sauveur Médoc, the Château Peyrabon vineyard spans approximately 37 hectares of vines aged 21 years on average, planted on sandy gravel resting on a clay subsoil. Clay-limestone soils are found on 5 hectares of the vineyard. The vineyard is ISO14001-2015 and HVE (High Environmental Value) certified, with phytosanitary protection carried out using sustainable pest management.

Winemaking and aging

Following the harvest, systematic sorting precedes plot-by-plot vinification in concrete and temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Fermentation is carried out at temperatures of 25-26°C. Adapted pump-overs, punch-downs, and rack and return are performed to refine extraction.
Press wines are separated into barrels, then selected based on their quality during tasting.
Carried out partly in barrels, malolactic fermentation is followed by traditional aging in barrels for 14 months (22% new wood).

Blend

This Château Peyrabon 2010 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (6.4%) and Petit Verdot (3.6%).

Tasting
Appearance
The wine is purple in color, adorned with dark ruby highlights.
Nose
With beautiful aromatic intensity, the nose blends notes of black fruit (blueberry, fresh blackcurrant, licorice) with a delicate touch of vanilla.
Palate
Smooth, the palate seduces with its concentrated tannins with a fine and elegant grain.
Persistent, the finish is mouth-watering and of good length.
