Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Pommard 2024 Domaine A.F. Gros
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals an intense ruby hue, with deep violet highlights in its youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals a beautiful concentration of red and black fruits, evoking raspberry, cherry and stone fruits. This is complemented by secondary notes of violet, liquorice and subtle spicy touches.
Palate
Structured and generous, the palate offers present but non-astringent tannins. The mid-palate stands out for its lovely concentration, leading to a persistent, aromatic finish that illustrates a perfect balance between power and elegance.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled red meats, such as beef or lamb, as well as feathered game. It also enhances traditional slow-cooked dishes such as beef bourguignon or coq au vin. As for cheese, it pairs ideally with well-matured, characterful cheeses such as époisses, langres or comté.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment of this Pommard 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. While it can be enjoyed in its youth without prior decanting, decanting is recommended for older bottles. It is also suggested to let the wine rest for one to two hours at room temperature before serving. With its lovely structure, this wine has excellent aging potential.
The authentic expression of a great Pommard wine
The estate
Born in 1988 from the union of Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros embodies excellence in Burgundy. Based in Pommard with facilities in Beaune, the estate oversees a vineyard of around 14 hectares. Today, the next generation has taken over: Caroline Parent leads the commercial strategy, while Mathias Parent oversees the vineyard and winemaking. The estate stands out for its commitment to sustainable farming, promoting biodiversity and respect for the terroirs, to create wines combining the family's historic finesse with local power.
The vineyard
The plots dedicated to this Pommard flourish on slopes facing east and southeast, at an altitude ranging from 250 to 330 metres. This prime location ensures ideal sunlight exposure for the ripening of the grapes. The vines draw their character from clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation, giving the wine its mineral complexity and distinctive structure. The vineyard is cultivated using traditional methods, with meticulous soil work and exclusively hand-harvested grapes.
The vintage
The year 2024 began with a mild winter leading to early budbreak, exposing the vines to the risk of spring frost. The growing cycle was then marked by persistent high humidity, particularly during véraison in August, requiring increased vigilance against disease pressure. Despite these climatic challenges and reduced yields, the harvest, carried out in late September with extremely rigorous sorting, produced highly concentrated berries, offering vibrant fruit and a lovely balance.
Winemaking and aging
The making of this Pommard 2024 is based on a philosophy of minimal intervention. After destemming adapted to the profile of the year, the berries undergo cold maceration. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in small open vats, punctuated by regular punching down and pumping over for gentle extraction. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, sourced from high forest stands, with a proportion of new wood adjusted according to the appellation level, allowing the structure to be refined while preserving the purity of the fruit.
