A Languedoc Red Wine Combining Bordeaux Tradition and Mediterranean Character
The Estate
Acquired in 1998 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her sons, Domaine de Lambert, renamed Domaine de Baronarques, covers 40 hectares in the Languedoc, near Saint-Polycarpe. Now owned by Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, this estate benefits from an exceptional terroir located between 250 and 350 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils. Its uniqueness lies in the convergence of Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic influences, allowing the expression of Bordeaux and Languedoc grape varieties with the legendary expertise of the Rothschild family.
The Vineyard
This Grand Vin Rouge from Domaine de Baronarques comes from a 40-hectare vineyard on clay-limestone soils, benefiting from an altitude of between 250 and 350 meters. The vines, averaging 24 years of age, enjoy a unique climate blending Atlantic and Mediterranean influences. This privileged geographical location in the IGP Hautes Vallée de l'Aude allows an optimal expression of the grape varieties in a preserved environment.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage in the Languedoc was marked by a mild, dry winter, leading to early budbreak as of April 5 for the red grape varieties. Flowering occurred between late May and early June, followed by significant rainfall in May and June with very high temperatures. July and early August brought welcome coolness, allowing a late and prolonged veraison. The intense heat in mid-August, exceeding 43°C, did not cause major water stress thanks to the soil's good water reserves. September maintained the warmth with a rainfall deficit, concentrating the berries. Harvest took place from September 12 to October 4 under perfect sanitary conditions.
Winemaking and Aging
The Grand Vin rouge 2023 is aged for 12 months in barrels, 25% of which are new. This respectful approach preserves the fruit expression while imparting an elegant tannic structure and subtle oak notes that integrate harmoniously throughout.
Grape Varieties
Merlot (36%), Cabernet Franc (26%), Syrah (25%), Malbec (10%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%).
