Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of L'Oriental 2023 Domaine de la Rectorie

Tasting notes

Colour
The colour reveals a deep, intense purple, reflecting youthfulness and great vitality.

Nose
Rich and complex, the nose exudes intense aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and plum. It then opens up with spicy, peppery notes, subtly underscored by mineral touches and scents of garrigue typical of its Mediterranean terroir.

Palate
Dense and powerful, the palate offers a concentrated, succulent texture, carried by tannins that are firm, fresh and elegant all at once. The balance is remarkable, leading to a long, flavourful finish marked by notes of liquorice and black olive.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, duck breast with figs, or a lamb tagine with mild spices. It will also enhance Mediterranean-inspired dishes such as rabbit with olives or feathered game.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the complexity of L'Oriental 2023, it is recommended to serve it at 16°C, after a light aeration or decanting. This wine can be enjoyed now, while also possessing excellent potential for further development in the cellar over the coming years.

Other characteristics

This dry red wine has an alcohol content of 15%. To preserve its full aromatic complexity and structure, it is bottled without any prior fining.

The authentic expression of a Collioure wine by Domaine de la Rectorie

The estate

Founded in 1984 by brothers Marc and Thierry Parcé, Domaine de la Rectorie is a key reference in Roussillon. Although the family has been growing vines for over a century, it was at this point that the estate began bottling its own wines. Today, Jean-Emmanuel Parcé, Thierry's son, leads the estate. He carries on the family legacy across a vineyard of roughly thirty hectares, combining respect for tradition with a contemporary approach centred on organic farming and the authentic expression of this Mediterranean terroir.

The vineyard

Located less than a kilometre from the Mediterranean Sea, the vineyard behind this Collioure wine is spread across steep terraced hillsides, rising to an altitude of 400 metres. The vines, averaging over fifty years of age, are deeply rooted in poor soils composed of Cambrian schist. This unique terroir, both maritime and mountainous, is cultivated according to organic farming principles, encouraging low yields and optimal berry concentration, with grapes harvested exclusively by hand.

The vintage

2023 proved to be a particularly favourable year in the region, offering ideal weather conditions for the vines. The growing cycle benefited from adequate rainfall during its growth phase, followed by a warm, dry ripening period. This climate allowed the berries to reach perfect phenolic and sugar ripeness, without excessive disease pressure.

Winemaking and aging

For the L'Oriental 2023 cuvée, the grapes are harvested at a very advanced stage of ripeness, similar to that sought for vins doux naturels. However, the winemaking process follows a traditional approach with no fortification, allowing the sugars to ferment completely to produce a dry wine. The process is deliberately low-intervention, favouring simplicity to faithfully reflect the terroir, and concludes with bottling without fining.
