A Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru of exceptional elegance by Domaine Leroy
The estate
François Leroy, owner of vineyards in Auxey-Duresses and Musigny among others, founded the wine merchant house Leroy in 1868. His son Joseph and, a few years later, his grandson Henri, gradually developed the estate, notably through the creation of a branch dedicated to the production of liqueurs and eaux-de-vie. In 1942, Henri Leroy acquired half of the prestigious terroir of the Romanée-Conti. Following his death, his younger daughter Lalou Bize-Leroy joined Domaine Leroy in 1955 and became co-manager of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, alongside Aubert de Villaine, between 1974 and 1992.
The vineyard
The Les Boudots climat covers 6.3 hectares of Premier Cru, located mid-slope and bordering the prestigious Malconsorts of Vosne-Romanée. The typical soil of Nuits-Saint-Georges is composed of brown limestone mixed with fine gravel. The eastern exposure ensures ideal sunlight, allowing optimal ripeness to be reached. This privileged position gives the wines of Les Boudots an elegance closer to that of Vosne-Romanée rather than the characteristic power of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The vines of Domaine Leroy are cultivated in certified biodynamics, without pesticides, fungicides or herbicides, and have not undergone any mechanical pruning since 1999.
The vintage
The 2009 vintage proved exceptional in Burgundy. Climatic conditions allowed the red fruits to reach remarkable concentration and optimal ripeness, while preserving the acidity necessary for structure and aging potential. This balance between ripeness and freshness defines the finest successes of the vintage.
Winemaking and aging
The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Boudots" Domaine Leroy 2009 is made according to the estate’s non-interventionist philosophy. The grapes are vinified as whole clusters, without destemming, thus preserving the integrity of the fruit and allowing optimal circulation of the juice in the vats. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. Aging is carried out exclusively in new French oak barrels, in two successive cellars, the second being cooler. The wine is neither filtered nor fined, thereby respecting its natural authenticity. Bottling takes place once the wine has naturally reached clarity.
