Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2022 by Louis Jadot
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals an intense ruby red hue with deep garnet reflections.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, intertwined with floral touches of peony and violet. With aeration, it unveils remarkable complexity, showing nuances of spices and mint, as well as mineral and earthy aromas reminiscent of sandalwood and tobacco.
Palate
Ample and elegant, the palate offers a creamy fruit-driven core supported by lovely freshness. The tannins, both firm and silky, structure the tasting through to a long finish marked by mineral and subtly woody notes.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with feathered game such as pheasant or partridge, as well as roasted meats like venison or duck. It also beautifully accompanies a rib of beef, mushroom-based dishes such as morels, or aged cheeses with character such as Époisses.
Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to decant this wine in its youth and to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. This Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2022 can be enjoyed from 2029 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2050.
The masterful expression of a Burgundy Grand Cru by Louis Jadot
The estate
Founded in 1859, the Louis Jadot House is a landmark institution located in Burgundy, France. Currently owned by the American Kopf family and chaired by Thomas Seiter, the estate stretches over approximately 270 hectares of vines. Both a négociant and a producer, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, with recent organic certification for part of its lands. Louis Jadot makes it a point of honour to express the authenticity of its terroirs through minimally interventionist winemaking and a unique mastery of ageing thanks to its own cooperage.
The vineyard
The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze comes from a historic 15.4-hectare plot located in Gevrey-Chambertin, whose boundaries have remained unchanged since the year 630. Facing east on a gentle slope between 275 and 310 metres of altitude, the vines benefit from optimal sunlight. The soils vary from fine, rocky limestone on the heights to deeper clay-rich earth at the bottom of the slope, all resting on a subsoil rich in silica and marine fossils.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by a hot, dry summer punctuated by several heatwaves. The vines nevertheless showed great resilience. Welcome rainfall in mid-August allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while retaining lovely acidity. The early harvest, which began in late August, yielded fruit of impeccable sanitary quality.
Winemaking and ageing
For this Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2022, the grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, carefully sorted and then destemmed. Fermentation takes place in small open vats with indigenous yeasts for three to four weeks, punctuated by punch-downs and pump-overs. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new, in order to preserve the natural expression of the terroir.
