An exceptional Rhône Valley red wine combining power and elegance
The property
Founded in 1808, the M. Chapoutier House is a pillar of the Rhône Valley, with a vineyard of 360 hectares. Led by Michel Chapoutier, a pioneer of biodynamics since the 1980s, and his daughter Mathilde, the property stands out for its innovative practices, such as parcel vinification and Braille labels. M. Chapoutier is recognized for its exceptional wines, often rated 100/100 by Robert Parker, and was ranked among the top 50 global wine tourism destinations in 2024.
The vineyard
Les Bécasses by M. Chapoutier is a Côte-Rôtie wine from vineyards planted on chlorite and ferruginous mica-schist soils, with loess depressions. The Côte Brune features schist soils with silty areas, rich in glacial pebbles, while the Côte Blonde is characterized by lighter soils, with siliceous and limestone deposits from the Ice Age.
Vinification and aging
Les Bécasses 2020 is made from grapes entirely hand-harvested at optimal maturity. After destemming, fermentation takes place in concrete vats with daily punching down to extract color and tannins. The maceration lasts from 3 to 4 weeks depending on the vintage. The aging is then carried out in oak barrels, part of which is new wood.
Blend
Syrah (100%).
