Description

Characteristics and tasting recommendations for Neve 2025 by M. Chapoutier

Tasting

Appearance

A beautiful deep purple hue, the wine shows bright carmine highlights.

Nose

The nose expresses itself with finesse through aromas of wild berries, accompanied by nuances of mocha, fern, and a subtle hint of violet, bringing a sensation of freshness.

Palate

The attack is smooth, supported by silky tannins. The palate reveals delicate notes of smoked cured meats, enhanced by a touch of graphite and redcurrant coulis, leading into a savory and lively finish.

The mineral and refined expression of a great Côte-Rôtie

The estate

Founded in 1808 in the Rhône Valley, Maison M. Chapoutier stands as an essential reference in the world of wine. Taken over in 1990 by Michel Chapoutier, it underwent a major transformation with the introduction of biodynamics and the development of Sélections Parcellaires, aimed at revealing the identity of each terroir. Today, Michel Chapoutier runs the estate alongside his children, Mathilde and Maxime. The group manages more than 1,200 hectares worldwide, while promoting values of inclusion, notably through the use of Braille on its labels.

The vineyard

Originating from a specific lieu-dit located in the commune of Ampuis, this wine comes from a parcel of Côte-Rôtie covering between 1.5 and 3 hectares. The vines benefit from an ideal south-southeast exposure, ensuring optimal sunshine moderated by the Rhône winds. The terroir, composed of schist and micaschist, forces the vines to develop deep root systems. This parcel is cultivated according to rigorous certified biodynamic practices.

The vintage

A vintage that began with a rather mild and very rainy winter, building up good water reserves, followed by a long cold spell that delayed budbreak and reduced the risk of frost. The spring, alternating between rain and sunshine, led to strong vegetative growth and increased vine pressure, with early flowering but fewer clusters. The summer was marked by two heatwaves and a hail episode in Crozes-Hermitage, causing some losses. The harvest, early from mid-August, was spread out thanks to rainfall at the end of August, which refined ripeness levels.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are harvested by hand and fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts, with temperatures gradually reaching 30 to 32°C. A long maceration lasting four to five weeks is punctuated by gentle pump-overs and punch-downs. After settling, the wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in 228-liter Burgundy barrels, 25 to 30% of which are new oak.

Grape variety

Neve 2025 by M. Chapoutier is made exclusively from Syrah (100%).
