Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Clos du Chapitre" 2022 from Morey-Blanc
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a deep red colour.
Nose
The expressive bouquet centres on small dark fruits, releasing deep aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry.
Palate
The palate stands out for its tannic framework, at once refined, straight and solid, offering a beautiful density that underscores the elegance of its terroir.
Serving and ageing
Built for long keeping, this wine demands patience. It will need several years of cellaring to soften its solid tannic structure and reveal its full aromatic complexity.
The structured, fruit-driven expression of an Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru
The estate
The Morey family has cultivated vines in Burgundy since the 16th century. While the family estate of around ten hectares was founded in 1971, the négociant-éleveur house Morey-Blanc was established in 1992 to broaden the range. Deeply rooted in Meursault, the estate is today co-managed by Pierre and his daughter Anne Morey, joined by Jean-Victor in 2020. A pioneer, the estate is distinguished by its early commitment to biodynamics, certified in the late 1990s. Maison Morey-Blanc thus combines family tradition, respect for all living things and a demanding pursuit of quality across Burgundy's finest terroirs.
The vineyard
The Premier Cru climat from which this wine comes lies in the very heart of the village of Aloxe-Corton, within the historic lieu-dit "Les Meix". This clos, traditionally enclosed by walls, takes its name from the canons who owned these lands in the 13th century. Set on clay-limestone soils strewn with stones, these vines enjoy a south-facing exposure at mid-slope, in the immediate vicinity of the Grands Crus of the Corton hill. The vineyard is farmed with the utmost respect for the soils, fostering microbial life and the plant's natural defences.
Vinification and ageing
The winemaking follows a minimally interventionist philosophy aimed at respecting the fruit. After meticulous hand harvesting, the healthy, ripe grapes are gently conveyed to the cellars. Vinification takes place in old vaulted Burgundy cellars, where fermentations start spontaneously through the exclusive action of the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the berries. Ageing in oak barrels refines the wine's structure while preserving the authentic expression of its terroir.
