Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Christian Drouin's Calvados VSOP
Tasting
Nose
The nose is seductive and full of freshness. It begins with precise notes of sweet cider, baked apple and gingerbread. The palette opens gradually to more vegetal and floral notes before becoming resolutely fruity with citrus and prune. Notes of almond liqueur and beeswax are also detectable.
Palate
The attack on the palate is ample and without aggression. The woody structure, more present, channels the fruity notes of the nose. Mid-palate, there is a presence of sweet spices creating a beautiful balance. The eau-de-vie offers good length while remaining light. The finish is harmonious and devoid of bitterness or astringency. It lingers on fruit, particularly apple, with a medicinal hint, clove and arnica.
Food pairings and tasting moments
This Calvados is ideal for the "trou normand" or to accompany a Livarot cheese. It is best enjoyed between 18 and 19°C.
Other characteristics
This Calvados has a 40% ABV and comes in a 70cl bottle with a gift box.
A gourmet and elegantly fruity Pays d'Auge Calvados
Christian Drouin, a House of excellence in the Pays d'Auge
Founded in 1960 by Christian Drouin in Normandy, this family House has established itself as a reference for Calvados. Established in the heart of the Pays d'Auge, on the Domaine Cœur de Lion, it has perpetuated exceptional artisanal know-how for three generations. Today managed by Guillaume Drouin, the House stands out for its traditional double distillation and the highlighting of numerous cider apple varieties. It has won over 230 gold medals in international competitions and offers a remarkable collection of vintage Calvados covering notably the period 1939-1998.
Christian Drouin's VSOP, a blend of balance and finesse
This VSOP is the result of double distillation, then aged for at least 5 years in recent oak barrels, then an additional 4 to 5 years in old barrels, in order to preserve the fruity expression of the apple while gaining roundness and complexity. A blend of different carefully selected batches, the Calvados VSOP Christian Drouin seeks a balance between freshness, indulgence and woody structure
