Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Saint-Péray "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 from Tardieu Laurent
Food and Wine Pairings
This white Saint-Péray is a natural match for noble, firm-fleshed fish such as turbot, line-caught sea bass or sole, prepared in a light sauce or simply dressed with a squeeze of citrus. Shellfish, whether lobster or spiny lobster roasted in butter, also pair beautifully with its body. As for meats, free-range poultry in a creamy sauce, for example served with mushrooms, makes a harmonious pairing with this style of Rhône white wine.
Serving and Cellaring
The Saint-Péray "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 is ideally served at around 12°C.
A white wine from the northern Rhône Valley by Tardieu-Laurent, made from old vines of the Saint-Péray appellation
The Estate
Founded in 1996 in Lourmarin, in the Luberon, Tardieu-Laurent is a Rhône Valley négociant-éleveur that owns no vineyards of its own. It works with nearly a hundred partner growers spread across the Rhône's many terroirs. Now run by Michel Tardieu and his son Bastien, the House follows an ageing philosophy inspired by Burgundian methods, favouring the selection of old vines and meticulous work in barrel.
The Vineyard
The Saint-Péray "Vieilles Vignes" comes from hillside plots known as La Côte and Beylesse, within the Saint-Péray appellation, in the northern Rhône Valley. The soils are clay-limestone, lending the wine both structure and minerality. The Marsanne vines, aged 50 to 100 years, and the Roussanne vines, over 40 years old, give this cuvée its characteristic concentration and depth.
Vinification and Ageing
For the Saint-Péray "Vieilles Vignes" 2025, Maison Tardieu-Laurent follows its usual method for this cuvée, with around twelve months of ageing in new barrels and in barrels that have previously held wine, sourced from the forests of Allier, Tronçais and Jupille. The wine is bottled without fining and with a light filtration, in order to best preserve its texture and complexity.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from Marsanne and Roussanne, the two white grape varieties permitted in the Saint-Péray appellation, here sourced from old vines.
