Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Grand Élevage" 2022 Verget
Tasting
Colour
A beautiful golden hue, this white wine reveals pale to medium highlights.
Nose
Expressive and complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with fresh orchard fruit notes, dominated by pear and white peach. It then reveals a mineral signature typical of its terroir, blending touches of flint, almond, hazelnut and citrus, all subtly underlined by floral nuances of acacia and white flowers, along with delicate buttery and toasted aromas.
Palate
Medium- to full-bodied, the palate seduces with its silky, elegant texture. A lovely acidity brings liveliness and freshness, perfectly balancing the wine's richness. The mid-palate reveals a fine complexity in which the influence of the oak integrates harmoniously. The finish, remarkably persistent, remains carried by minerality while ending on subtle toasted notes.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with fine shellfish such as lobster, langoustine or crayfish. It also complements white meats or poultry served with a cream sauce, refined white fish such as turbot or sole, as well as fresh goat's cheeses. Its aromatic complexity also allows it to enhance subtly spiced dishes, such as a seafood couscous or Asian-inspired recipes.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Grand Élevage" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. With its lovely mineral structure, this wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar, drinking well until around 2037.
Other characteristics
This wine has a balanced alcohol content, between 13 and 13.5%. It is bottled with a screw cap closure, a deliberate technical choice made by the producer to preserve the precision, freshness and stability of the aromatic profile over time.
The precision and mineral elegance of a Pouilly-Fuissé white wine by Verget
The estate
Founded in 1990 by the visionary Belgian Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine, the négociant house Verget is located in Sologny, at the heart of the Mâconnais in Burgundy. Born from a desire to showcase terroirs that had sometimes been underestimated, the estate has made its name through its exacting approach and minimal-intervention philosophy, seeking to reveal the authentic expression of the grapes. Today, Jean-Marie Guffens continues to bring his vision to life, while Julien Desplans, head of production since 2016, oversees technical direction with great precision. The estate stands out for its stylistic consistency and spirit of innovation.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, which spans the villages of Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson and Chaintré. The vines, often old and cultivated using organic or sustainable practices, thrive at an altitude of between 200 and 300 metres. The terroir is characterised by clay-limestone soils of Jurassic origin, dotted with scree, offering naturally low yields that favour concentrated aromas and mineral expression.
The vintage
2022 stood out for its sunny, mild weather, spared from severe frost episodes. The harvest, carried out at the end of August and beginning of September, allowed the berries to be picked at optimal ripeness, retaining lovely freshness and balanced acidity without excessive heaviness.
Winemaking and aging
The production of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Grand Élevage" 2022 relies on exclusively hand-harvested grapes followed by rigorous sorting. Each plot is pressed and vinified separately using a manual pneumatic press, allowing precise control over extraction. Fermentation is carried out solely with indigenous yeasts. True to the house's quality protocol, this wine is entirely fermented and aged in oak barrels (15% new oak), with aging on the lees to develop its complexity and texture.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
