The 2022 vintage in Alsace is characterised by a year with a harsh sunny climate for the vines and the winegrowers. The abnormally mild and dry winter laid the foundations for a start to the year with a significant water shortage. Despite budburst being slightly delayed by this lack of water, the spring brought favourable conditions, notably with generous rainfall in April.

The summer, one of the hottest on record, accelerated vine growth but also subjected the vineyards to intense water stress, delaying veraison until mid-August. The continuing lack of water led to a vintage that was initially expected to be very early, but which was slightly delayed due to ripening blocks. The beneficial rainfall in September allowed the grapes to ripen gradually.

Despite the climatic challenges, these ‘en primeur’ wines reveal a lovely freshness and a fruity, subtly floral aromatic framework, sustained by a characteristic minerality.
