2025 En Primeur in Alsace: vintage focus
Between heatwaves and saving rains: a season under high pressure
2025 ranks among the hottest years ever recorded in Colmar (the sixth since 1972) and the tenth driest. Spring set the stage for a high-pressure schedule: with May and June particularly low on rainfall, the vines visibly suffered from water stress before saving rains arrived in July.
Summer brought a succession of contrasts: intense heat, clusters concentrated under a relentless sun, then rainfall at the end of July at the onset of veraison. The wide temperature swings preserved the integrity of the berries.
A record-early harvest, concentrated grapes
On 19 August 2025, the secateurs went into the vineyards for the Crémants (an all-time record in Alsace, ten days earlier than in 2024). Still wines followed from 25 August.
Volumes are noticeably down: smaller clusters with thick skins concentrated their aromas. The harvest, partly carried out between two late-August showers, demanded responsiveness and precision. The most attentive winegrowers brought in grapes of exceptional sanitary purity.
Wines of tension, precision and character
The 2025 Alsace whites stand out for their tension. The acidity, preserved despite the summer heat, gives the Rieslings a crystalline precision and the Pinots Gris a straight, focused structure. The thick skins delivered a beautiful aromatic intensity: floral and saline, the cuvées display a particularly sharp expression.
The Pinots Noirs, for their part, lean towards crunchy profiles dominated by fruit, with an elegant tannic frame.
A vintage of character, crafted for early enjoyment as much as for fine cellar evolution.
Frequently asked questions
What is an en primeur wine?
An en primeur wine is a wine put on sale just a few weeks after the harvest, even before its fermentation or ageing is complete. To learn more about how this system works, visit our dedicated page: "What are wine futures?".
When are Alsace wines released en primeur?
The campaign generally takes place in spring, mainly between late April and June. Releases are announced on a rolling basis by the estates.
When will the wines be delivered?
Delivery takes place after bottling at the château, between late 2027 and early 2028 depending on the estate. During the ageing period, the wines are kept in the châteaux's cellars. Millésima then receives them and ships them directly to you.
Why buy En Primeur?
Buying en primeur allows you to acquire the most sought-after wines and vintages while they are still in barrel. It is a unique opportunity to invest in a fine wine before it is bottled and released onto the market.
2024 En Primeur in Alsace: a year of climatic challenges
2024, a vintage shaped by unpredictable weather
The winter in Alsace, mild and gentle, led to an early budbreak, with no significant frost episodes in spring. Spring, however, was marked by cool, persistent rains, disrupting flowering (with coulure and millerandage) and increasing mildew pressure. Summer alternated between heat, storms and hail episodes, while a drier August allowed for a satisfactory veraison. Cooler, wetter weather in September slowed grape ripening, making it a later vintage. Despite these challenges, constant vigilance helped maintain a satisfactory sanitary condition.
The harvest: between climatic challenges and quality berries
Harvesting began as early as late August for the Crémants, before continuing from early September for the still wines. Spread out until early October depending on the ripeness of each grape variety, it took place under sometimes capricious weather. Despite these changing conditions, the overall sanitary condition of the grapes proved satisfactory, allowing for rigorous selection in the vineyard. Yields, down compared to 2023, were affected by flowering issues and mildew pressure. Nevertheless, the result is concentrated berries with a beautiful balance.
Profile of the 2024 Alsace en primeur wines
The white wines are appealing for their freshness, finesse and remarkable tension. The marked acidity gives the wines a beautiful length, with sharp aromas of citrus, white fruits and flowers.
The Pinots Noirs reveal aromas of crunchy red fruits and an elegant palate, with fine tannins, lively acidity and a low alcohol level (12 to 12.5%).
