Description

A Tuscan Red wine combining delicacy and character

The estate

The Ricasoli family, one of the oldest Italian families whose origins date back to the 7th century, founded the oldest wine estate in Italy. Indeed, in 1141, it acquired Château Brolio, marking the beginning of its commitment to viticulture. Aware of the exceptional potential of this terroir, the family undertook significant vineyard restructuring and modernization of viticultural techniques, aiming to produce wines of excellence from the Brolio terroir.

The Tuscan wines from the Barone Ricasoli estate quickly gained international renown, notably when the Brolio wine won the gold medal at the 1867 Exposition Universelle in Paris. After extensive research, Bettino Ricasoli developed in 1872 the "formula" of Chianti, now known as Chianti Classico.

The vineyard

The Castello di Brolio Gran Selezione from Barone Ricasoli is a Tuscan wine from a 26-hectare vineyard, situated between 400 and 490 meters in altitude in the Chianti Classico. Its varied terroir and privileged geographic location, ranging from alberese sandstone to galestro limestone, allow the vines to thrive under a beneficial microclimate. These blessed lands give rise to wines with an extraordinary tannic structure and aromatic richness.

The vintage

The winter was mild and rainy, followed by a warm, dry spring. The summer, marked by high temperatures and a lack of water, tested the vines. Nevertheless, they adapted and regulated their growth. Rainfall at the end of August refreshed the atmosphere, promoting véraison, while ideal conditions in September allowed for optimal grape ripening, ensuring a high-quality harvest.

Vinification and aging

This Chianti Classico wine undergoes fermentation and maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (24-27°C) for 14 to 16 days. It is aged for 22 months in barrels (30% new and 70% second-fill).

Grape variety

This Castello di Brolio Gran Selezione 2022 from Barone Ricasoli is 100% Sangiovese.
