Description

The freshness and aromatic purity of an exceptional champagne

The estate

Established for nearly five centuries in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the Philipponnat Champagne House is one of the historic names of the Champagne region. Distinction, excellence, generosity, and simplicity are the values guiding this house, whose spirit has remained family-run. Owned by the house since 1935, the legendary Clos des Goisses is one of the oldest and most prestigious clos in Champagne. This gem is the origin of rare champagnes endowed with exceptional power.

The Philipponnat House oversees an outstanding vineyard comprising 20 hectares of Premier and Grand Crus in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, and Avenay.

The wine

The name of the Cuvée 1522 Grand Cru by Philipponnat refers to the year when the Philipponnat family settled in the village of Ay in Champagne.

The vineyard

This cuvée comes from the estate’s finest vineyards, notably from the historic “Léon” plots in Ay.

Vinification and aging

Crafted from the house’s greatest vineyards, this exceptional cuvée is partially vinified in oak barrels without malolactic fermentation to preserve its freshness and develop its complexity. Benefiting from eight years of aging, this 2018 vintage champagne is a refined expression of minerality, freshness, and balance from the finest Champagne terroirs.

Blend

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
