Description

Characteristics and tasting tips of Château Balestard La Tonnelle 2019

Tasting

Nose
With beautiful concentration, the nose reveals notes of dried fruit and stone fruit.

Palate
The palate combines precision and freshness. Aromas of spice, leather and blueberry come together harmoniously, leading to a peppery finish.

Food and wine pairings

Meats (beef fillet in pastry, lamb, duck, grilled steak, leg of lamb, duck breast) or hard or blue cheeses (Comté, aged Gouda or Roquefort) are refined pairings with this wine.

The complexity and freshness of a Saint-Émilion wine

The estate

The name of the Château Balestard la Tonnelle has a double origin. “Balestard” was the name of a canon of the chapter of Saint-Émilion and “la Tonnelle” an ancient stone watchtower dating from the 15th century, still present in the heart of the vineyard. This Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion has been owned by the Capdemourlin family since 1923. Château Balestard la Tonnelle is mentioned in a poem by François Villon, which appears on the label.

The vineyard

Located on the right bank of Bordeaux, Château Balestard la Tonnelle overlooks a 10.50-hectare vineyard situated at the top of a hill on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion.

Winemaking and aging

Winemaking in tapered stainless steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels. This Saint-Émilion wine benefits from an aging period of 15 to 18 months (50% new barrels and 50% one-wine barrels).

Blend

Merlot (77%), Cabernet Sauvignon (13%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
