Description

A great Pomerol wine from Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite

The estate
Gradually established by the Léglise family from Libourne around the mid-18th century, Château L’Évangile quickly gained recognition as a “Premier Cru of Haut-Pomerol.” After belonging to the Ducasse family, Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite acquired the property in 1990, determined to elevate the estate to its highest potential. From the vineyard to the cellar, Château L’Évangile underwent significant restructuring and modernization, allowing it to stand out among the finest references of the Pomerol appellation.

The vineyard
Overseeing a 22-hectare vineyard, Château L’Évangile enjoys a privileged location in Pomerol, nestled between Château Pétrus to the north and Château Cheval Blanc to the south. The vines are planted on sandy-clay soils with pure gravel, resting atop a subsoil composed of the famous iron-rich crasse de fer.

The vintage
The vineyard of Château L’Évangile withstood the intense heat of the sunny 2019 vintage remarkably well. Harvest began on September 13 with the Merlots located on the Pomerol plateau, followed by the Cabernets. The excellent results point to the birth of a truly outstanding 2019 vintage, particularly highlighting the quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which promises a bright future as a grape variety on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.

Blend
Merlot (83.5%), Cabernet Franc (16%), Cabernet Sauvignon (0.5%).
