Vinum

Initially restrained, less expressive than other wines yet with depth; smoky notes over cherry and plum; a straightforward palate, light-bodied, delicate fruit, with the tannins only appearing right at the end—present, noble in the background; good aromatic length. A fine interpretation of the vintage.

Decanter

The Merlot-driven blend reveals a deep ruby in the glass; the nose shows spicy notes with a floral lift. The palate leans slightly dilute, yet carries attractive red and black fruits. Oak-driven tannins shape the texture, giving some grip and structure. It lingers well, showing potential for development.

Medium-bodied, forward, fruity, and already fun, as well as easy to taste—you can open and enjoy this on the young side for all of its fruit and minty freshness. Drink from 2027–2038. 89–91 pts

Le Figaro Vin

Worthy of Dame Tartine’s palace, the bouquet opens voluptuously with aromas of cherry clafoutis. The indulgent, juicy character of ripe fruit follows, while floral fragrances come and go as if carried by an invisible mist. On the palate, freshness leads the way over a silky, slightly grippy texture. Notes of raspberry leaf, blackcurrant and mint appear before a mouthwatering finish lifted by attractive bitters.

Vertdevin

The nose is aromatic, offering a hint of complexity, indulgent appeal, a fine, racy grain, a spicy edge, and a lovely airy character in its texture. It reveals notes of violet and sweet pepper, and, more subtly, fresh blackberry, joined by touches of wild red berries and hints of clove. The palate is fruity, mineral and fresh, with good definition, a certain juiciness, suppleness, gourmandise, and a mineral backbone. It also shows a velvety side, some aromatic depth/intensity, a lovely, enveloping touch of fat, and fine straightness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy blackcurrant and wild blackberry and, more subtly, small berries, with touches of violet and lilac, a hint of star anise, as well as a fine racy nuance and spice.

Description

A rich Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé with a beautiful aromatic structure

The estate

Located in the heart of Saint-Émilion, Clos des Jacobins embodies the spiritual and viticultural heritage of the region. Its name echoes the history of the Benedictine monks who once offered lodging and comfort to pilgrims on the chemin de Compostelle. Since 2004, this historically rich site has been in the hands of Thibaut and Magali Decoster, who cultivate a demanding and contemporary vision of wine there.

The vineyard

Clos des Jacobins benefits from a privileged location at the foot of the Saint-Émilion hillside, with full southern exposure promoting optimal grape ripening. The 8.5 hectares of vines are planted on limestone bedrock, clay and limestone scree, imparting minerality and freshness to the wines.

Winemaking and aging

Hand-harvested grapes and rigorous sorting. Maceration accompanied by regular punchdowns and rack-and-returns for optimal extraction. After a 17-day maceration in 60hl wooden vats and concrete tanks, malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels and wooden vats. The aging lasts 13 months, with 30% new wood.

Blend

This Clos des Jacobins 2024 is the result of a blend of Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
