Description
A vibrant, structured Sicilian white wine
The estate
Located in the heart of Sicily, the IDDA by Gaja estate explores the potential of the southern slopes of the volcano. The name "Idda", a Sicilian term meaning "she", is a tribute to this volcano regarded as "THE" mountain, both feared and admired, which has shaped the history of Sicily for centuries. Through the representation of this mountain, Alberto Graci pays tribute to the women of his family, whose strength and vitality are a source of inspiration in the making of these wines.
The vineyard
IDDA by Gaja looks after a 21-hectare vineyard spread across three plots. The estate owes its singularity to the location of its vines on the southern flank of Mount Etna, while many estates are situated on its northern side.
Located in the municipalities of Biancavilla and Belpasso, as well as on a site called Tartaraci, these vineyards benefit from a humid climate, high temperatures and optimal sunshine, fostering an earlier ripening than on the other sides of the volcano.
The wine
IDDA Sicilia Bianco 2022 by IDDA by Gaja is a Sicilian wine crafted from a century-old vineyard located in the municipality of Biancavilla. Planted between 630 and 820 metres in altitude, this terroir is characterised by its rocky volcanic soils surrounded by lava flows dating back several thousand years. The label of this cuvée reveals two references: the blue hue of the sea located near the vineyards, and the movement of the spiral, an ancient symbol evoking cyclical continuity and eternal expansion.
Vinification and ageing
Fermentation partly in oak barrels and partly in steel tanks.

Tasting
Nose
Expressive and indulgent, the nose releases notes of sugared almonds, lemon zest, marzipan and salted butter. With aeration, the bouquet grows more complex, with fragrances of jasmine, mustard flowers, mint, spices and gun flint.
Palate
The palate is captivating thanks to its saline minerality, delicate acidity, balance and hint of honey, stretching into a broad, lingering finish.
Serving
For optimal tasting, serve between 10 and 13°C.
