In the mountainous centre of Sicily, Italy, upon the land of the ancient Sclafani county, stands the Regaleali estate of the Tasca d'Almerita family. Tenuta Regaleali was acquired in 1830 and has been in operation by the Tasca d'Almerita family since 1837. Truly dedicated to Sicily and its surprising, captivating landscape, the family pays great attention to sustaining Sicily's wine heritage. The family attaches particular importance to agricultural decisions and their impact on the environment, co-founding the SOStain register, which measures and certifies the sustainability initiatives of winegrowers. In 2018, the family obtained the VIVA certification (sustainability of Sicilian viticulture).
Perched upon 6 hills, the 382-hectare Tenuta Regaleali vineyard is spread over the 12 different soils that make up a mosaic of terroirs. The vines are cultivated between 450 and 850 metres above sea level, and are planted to 12 different grape varieties.
Thanks to Lucio Tasca d'Almerita, father of the current owner at the helm of the family business, international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc have been planted on the properties of Tasca d'Almerita Regaleali. Perricone and Nero d'Avola, historical grape varieties originating in Sicily, have been planted here since 1959. These two grape varieties, planted on the hill of San Lucio, compose the first unique estate wine of Sicily: the Rosso del Conte - classified DOC Contea di Sclafani. Other grape varieties such as Grillo, Grecanico and Inzolia are used to produce iconic wines from Tasca d’almerita Regaleali.
