Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Hameau de Blagny" 2024 by Jean-Charles Fagot

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a pale to medium gold hue, which deepens in intensity over the years.

Nose

The aromatic bouquet reveals notes of citrus fruits, such as lemon and grapefruit, mingled with scents of white flowers and fruit trees. Nuances of peach, hazelnut, toasted bread and almond paste round out this olfactory profile.

Palate

The attack is powerful and gives way to a rich, unctuous and buttery evolution. The mineral character typical of this high-altitude terroir brings a beautiful tension to the whole, stretching towards a long-lasting finish.

Food and wine pairings

This white wine pairs perfectly with foie gras, grilled fish or fish in cream sauce, as well as with shellfish such as lobster or langoustine. It also complements poultry in cream sauce, such as Bresse chicken with Époisses, and mature cheeses such as Roquefort or blue-veined varieties.

Serving and cellaring

This Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Hameau de Blagny" 2024 can be kept in the cellar to be enjoyed until approximately 2034.

The estate

Located in Corpeau, in Burgundy, the estate was officially established in 1920, although the family has been based there since 1860. Today, Jean-Charles Fagot runs this property, which comprises three hectares of estate-owned vines, complemented by grape purchases. Both a winegrower and a restaurateur, he founded the Auberge du Vieux Vigneron in 1998, thus combining viticulture and gastronomy. The estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its traditional winemaking methods, offering an authentic expression of the region.

The vineyard

The terroir of Hameau de Blagny benefits from a high-altitude position within the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. South-facing, the vines flourish on soils composed of clay-limestone marls. The estate favours sustainable farming through integrated pest management, limiting chemical interventions.

The vintage

The year was marked by complex weather conditions, with excessive rainfall throughout the growing season. Fortunately, the return of warmth at harvest time allowed the berries to reach a satisfactory level of ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

The vinification of this Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Hameau de Blagny" 2024 relies on natural fermentations with minimal intervention. Aging then takes place over 12 to 14 months in large oak casks with a capacity of thirty to eighty hectolitres. This choice allows for a subtle woody contribution and a gentle oxidative evolution. Bottling is carried out between September and October.

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
