Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Petit Cheval 2022

Tasting

Nose
The nose, elegant and fresh, offers notes of yellow fruits, citrus, and beeswax, enriched on aeration by buttery and floral touches, while reflecting the indulgence of the sunny vintage.

Palate
The palate, round and supple, reveals a gentle acidity balanced by a bitterness that extends the wine. Subtle oak enriches the delicate texture, imparting volume and complexity.

The Freshness and Precision of a Dry White Bordeaux Wine

The Estate

Known worldwide, Château Cheval Blanc, a Premier Grand Cru Classé A, is one of the legendary estates of the Right Bank in the Bordeaux region. The Second Wine of the estate, Petit Cheval, offers a superb introduction to the excellence of the great Cheval Blanc, with refined, powerful wines featuring a palate of striking, succulent fruit. With a new winery designed by Christian de Portzamparc and inaugurated in June 2011, Château Cheval Blanc continues to write the legend of the greatest Bordeaux wines.

The Wine

Produced in the Bordeaux Blanc Sec appellation, Le Petit Cheval is the result of an adventure and a challenge that Château Cheval Blanc set itself more than ten years ago: producing a truly great white wine on a terroir historically renowned for its red wines. While the initial idea was to create a wine intended exclusively for family and friends, it soon became evident that it would become a truly great wine.

The Vineyard

Inherently embodying the identity of Cheval Blanc, Le Petit Cheval blanc enjoys a vineyard area entirely dedicated to it. This 6.6-hectare vineyard was formerly that of La Tour du Pin. Benefiting from its own winemaking and aging facilities, Le Petit Cheval blanc is thus blended from a mosaic of 13 different plots combining vines planted on sandy and clay soils.

Winemaking and Aging

After pressing, the lightly settled musts ferment in demi-muids, foudres, and wooden vats. The bâtonnages, initially daily, become less frequent according to the team’s tastings. The wines blended in February continue their aging for 18 months before being racked for stabilization, fining, and clarification, then bottled in May.
