Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Opus One Overture 2023
Tasting notes
Nose
The nose opens with generous fruit, blending blueberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, enhanced by touches of sweet cedar, fresh flowers and a subtle hint of caramel.
Palate
The palate is silky and vibrant, carried by juicy fruit (cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and red plum) with a fine texture and lovely freshness. The long, expressive finish reveals considerable ageing potential.
A California red wine that harmoniously blends richness and elegance
The estate
Opus One was born of the shared vision of two great figures of the wine world: Baron Philippe de Rothschild, master of Château Mouton Rothschild, and Robert Mondavi, a renowned American winemaker based in the Napa Valley.
The vineyard
A true icon among the great California wines, Opus One comes from vineyards nestled in the heart of the Oakville appellation. This exceptional "Grand Cru" embodies the meeting of two winemaking heritages, united in the pursuit of a wine of absolute distinction and quality.
The wine
Produced since 1993, Overture is Opus One's second wine. Crafted with the same exacting standards as its big brother, this Napa Valley cuvée reflects the estate's expertise and the soul of California's terroirs through a blend of several vintages.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage got off to a rainy start, with a notable storm before budbreak, and continued with a cool summer free of any intense heat.
