Owned by Stan Kroenke, who also owns the iconic Screaming Eagle estate and Domaine Bonneau du Martray in Burgundy, The Hilt Estate is an exceptional estate located in the AVA (American Viticultural Area) of Sta. Rita Hills Valley in Santa Barbara County on California's Central Coast. Set in an imposing landscape of vine-clad hills, The Hilt Estate looks after a complex terroir with a wide variety of soils, microclimates and altitudes. The vines are planted on poor soils, forcing them to develop a deep root system to draw nutrients from the ground. This area of California's Central Coast is also characterised by its cold oceanic climate, which encourages a slow ripening cycle by developing the acidity contained in small, highly concentrated grapes. The complexity of The Hilt's terroir is a patchwork of plots that the estate's renowned oenologist and winemaker - Matt Dees - is responsible for bringing to light in exceptional cuvées.

The Hilt estate is divided into 3 different vineyards: Bentrock, Radian and Puerta del Mar. The Bentrock and Radian vineyards are mainly used to produce the estate's 3 ranges of wines: The Guards, The Vanguard and Estate.

Made exclusively from a selection of the finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, The Old Guard Chardonnay and The Old Guard Pinot Noir are the epitome of The Hilt style. Complex, structured and full of energy, these exceptional cuvées will delight lovers of great California wines.
