Vineyard location and size
Domaine Sainte Marguerite en Provence covers nearly 200 hectares and is located in the Var department, in La Londe-les-Maures, a charming Provençal village bathed in Mediterranean sunshine.
What is its history?
The history of Domaine Sainte Marguerite en Provence dates back to Roman times, when the first vines were planted. However, it was in 1929 that the estate truly came into its own. Founded by André Chevillon, it extends across the terroir of La Londe-les-Maures, a village on the Var coast. In 1955, it was awarded the Cru Classé designation of Provence, which highlights the authenticity, diversity and quality of its products. In 1977, Brigitte and Jean-Pierre Fayard acquired the estate. Since then, it has continued to grow and modernise, while preserving its heritage and ancestral expertise.
Everything you need to know about this Provençal estate
A remarkable exposure
The vineyard benefits from an exceptional location, with a predominantly south-east exposure. This orientation allows the grapes to take full advantage of the Mediterranean sunshine, ensuring optimal ripeness of the berries. In addition, the maritime influence brings a refreshing breeze that tempers the summer heat and preserves the freshness of the grapes.
The mineral expression of the terroir
The terroir is characterised by schist and granite soils, which give the wines remarkable minerality and freshness. These soils, combined with the maritime influence, contribute to the creation of elegant and balanced wines.
Between sea and light: the Mediterranean climate in all its splendour
The Mediterranean climate of Domaine Sainte Marguerite en Provence is characterised by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. This favourable weather allows the grapes to reach ideal ripeness while preserving their freshness and natural acidity. The temperature variations between day and night, particularly during the ripening period, are also beneficial for the concentration of aromas and the structure of the wines.
Growing practices in tune with nature
Domaine Sainte Marguerite en Provence places great importance on respecting the environment and preserving biodiversity. That is why the vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of sustainable agriculture, limiting the use of plant protection products and favouring biological control methods.
Winemaking: the art of revealing the terroir
The grapes are hand-harvested to ensure rigorous selection of the berries and preserve their integrity. Vinification is then carried out with care, following traditional methods while incorporating modern techniques to enhance the aromas and structure of the wines.
The style of the wines: between freshness and subtlety
Domaine Sainte Marguerite en Provence produces rosé, red and white wines that reflect the typicity of their Provençal terroir.
The rosés, elegant and fruity, are characterised by their freshness and finesse. They are made from grape varieties such as Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah, which give them aromas of red fruits, citrus and white flowers.
The reds, for their part, stand out for their tannic structure and complex aromatic palette. They are produced from grape varieties such as Mourvèdre, Syrah and Grenache, which bring notes of black fruits, spices and garrigue.
Finally, the whites, rare and precious, charm with their balance and minerality. They are vinified from grape varieties such as Rolle, Ugni Blanc and Sémillon, which give them aromas of white-fleshed fruits, citrus and flowers.
Varied food and wine pairings
The wines of Domaine Sainte Marguerite en Provence pair perfectly with Mediterranean cuisine, rich in flavours and colours. The rosés will go wonderfully with grilled dishes, summer salads and fish. The reds, for their part, will enhance red meats and dishes in sauce. Finally, the whites, fresh and mineral, will be ideal to accompany seafood and raw fish.
