Description
Tasting characteristics and tips for A Night On Earth The First Light by Macallan
Tasting
Color
This expression displays a hue with deep golden sand highlights and reflects natural maturation without the addition of artificial coloring.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of gently toasted oak, accompanied by caramelized marshmallows. Powdered sugar and intense vanilla harmoniously mingle with a compote of red fruits, while delicate hints of Manuka honey and coconut lend a distinctive signature.
Palate
The attack reveals a velvety texture in which flavors of crème caramel and gently toasted oak unfold. Indulgent spices meet vanilla ice cream and pavlova, enhanced by notes of powdered sugar, apricot, coconut, and Manuka honey. This non-peated whisky fully expresses the fruity, gourmand character derived from maturation in sherry and ex-bourbon casks. The finish remains velvety and fruity with a touch of mild spices.
Food pairings and moments to enjoy
This whisky is ideally enjoyed during year-end celebrations and moments of togetherness that symbolize new beginnings. Its fruity softness and gourmand notes make it the perfect companion to desserts based on stone fruit or vanilla custard.
Mixology
Given its limited-edition status and aromatic complexity, we recommend enjoying this single malt neat, with a few drops of water if desired, to reveal all its nuances.
A Speyside single malt whisky with the shimmer of New Zealand’s dawn
Macallan, Speyside excellence since 1824
Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid in Easter Elchies, Macallan is regarded as an iconic Speyside distillery in the Scottish Highlands. Since 1999, it has belonged to the Edrington Group. Its distinctive hallmark lies in a strong specialization in maturation in sherry casks, primarily Oloroso. With the use of Golden Promise barley and 21 stills, Macallan embodies the excellence of Scottish single malt.
A Limited Edition that celebrates hope and renewal
This fourth edition of the annual A Night on Earth collection celebrates the first lights of the year in New Zealand and stands for the warmth of sharing as well as the spirit of new beginnings. Following the releases dedicated to Scottish Hogmanay, returning to loved ones, and the traditions of Jerez de la Frontera, this expression pays tribute to one of the year’s first sunrises.
A Night On Earth The First Light is born from a meticulous marrying that brings together European and American oak casks that previously held sherry, as well as ex-bourbon casks. This rigorous selection gives the Whisky its signature aromatic complexity, combining fruity and gourmand notes.
This edition is distinguished by a collaboration with New Zealand artist Bonnie Brown, whose work illustrates hope and renewal through the beauty of nature. The packaging reveals visuals inspired by the artist’s New Year memories: the red of coastal landscapes, the blue of ocean waters, and the amber of sunrise as a symbol of new beginnings.
