Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Hakushu 12 Year by Suntory Whisky
Tasting
Boasting lively, fresh flavours, Hakushu 12 Year Old Japanese whisky captivates with herbaceous aromas of green tea, a subtle hint of smoke and notes of sweet pear. Both mellow and smoky, this Single Malt offers remarkable roundness and complexity.
The Subtlety of a Japanese Whisky
Suntory Whisky, a Remarkable Distillery
In 1899, Shinjiro Torii opened a small family shop in Osaka to develop Western-style wines and liqueurs in Japan, despite a lukewarm reception. He created his own wine and, in 1907, launched Akadama Port Wine, known today as Akadama Sweet Wine. Building on this success, he founded the Yamazaki distillery in 1923, the first to produce malt whisky in Japan, with labels such as Suntory Shirofuda and Yamazaki. The Suntory group continued its international expansion, acquiring Château Lagrange in 1983, the Orangina Schweppes group in 2009, Ribena and Lucozade in 2013, and Beam in 2014.
An Exceptional Setting and Bespoke Craftsmanship
This Single Malt is crafted in the heart of the Japanese Alps, at an altitude of 700 metres, by the Hakushu distillery. The distillery lies amid the forests of Mount Kaikomagatake, and the surrounding nature shapes its creative process. The region's forests and clear waters give the whisky a unique freshness and smoothness.
The master distillers use carefully selected stills and casks, chosen to suit the altitude and climate.
