Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of La Rue des Noyers V20 Rosé by Benoît Déhu

Tasting Notes

Color
The color reveals a rosy hue, achieved through a meticulous maceration of the berries.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals notes of red fruits such as raspberry, wild strawberry, and redcurrant, complemented by light touches of black fruits like blackberry and blueberry. The whole is enriched by a floral dimension, a fine minerality linked to the marl-limestone soil, as well as discreet spicy and toasted nuances from the oak aging.

Palate
With a medium body, this wine offers a fresh and taut palate, supported by a very fine tannic structure. The slightly enveloping texture, brought by the time spent in barrels, extends into a long, persistent finish where the fruity and spicy aromas linger.

Food and Wine Pairing

This champagne pairs harmoniously with roasted or grilled poultry, fine cured meats, as well as lightly spiced Asian dishes such as tuna or salmon sashimi. It also wonderfully accompanies roasted vegetables, or delicately cooked meats such as veal, pork, pigeon, duck, and beef tartare.

Other Characteristics

This extra brut champagne stands out for its very low residual sugar dosage, ranging between 0 and 6 g/l. Its alcohol content is 12.5%.

The Singular Expression of a Terroir in the Marne Valley by Benoît Déhu

The Estate

Founded in 1787 in Fossoy, in the Marne Valley, the family-owned Déhu Père et Fils estate is steeped in a long-standing Champagne tradition. Today, Benoît Déhu, representing the eighth generation, leads the property. Having gained formative experience within a major Champagne house, he brings a contemporary and exacting vision to the estate. Across the ten hectares of family land, he personally devotes four hectares to organic and biodynamic viticulture certified as such. His distinctive approach highlights the terroir and revives the Meunier grape variety, positioning the estate among the essential names in Champagne's grower-producer movement.

The Vineyard

The La Rue des Noyers plot is a single 1.7-hectare block located in Fossoy, at the far western edge of the Marne Valley in Champagne. Resting on marl-limestone soils, this terroir is planted exclusively with Meunier. The vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, in strict accordance with lunar cycles. The soil is worked using horses, with no chemical products whatsoever, promoting biodiversity and deep root growth in the vines.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the non-vintage La Rue des Noyers V20 Rosé relies on the saignée method, which involves macerating the grapes before drawing off a portion of the juice. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes extended aging on the lees in 228-liter oak barrels. These barrels are notably crafted by a Champagne cooper using wood sourced from the winemaker's own forest, located in Meilleray, creating a perfect harmony between the vine and the wood.
