Description
A collection of exceptional vintages by Charles Heidsieck in an outstanding case
The estate
A benchmark in the field, the Champagne Charles Heidsieck House safeguards a prestigious heritage with chalk cellars that are two millennia old. As a pioneer, Charles Heidsieck set itself apart in the late 1980s by highlighting the remarkable aromatic evolution of its multi-vintage Brut champagne. In 1987, Charles Heidsieck became the first Champagne House to indicate the year of “cellaring” to track the wine’s development over time.
The concept
Created by the Charles Heidsieck House, the “Mis en Cave” concept offers a unique opportunity to discover collector’s bottles preserved in the darkness and coolness of Charles Heidsieck’s two-millennia-old Champagne chalk cellars. Timeless and truly outside of time, the bottles in the “Mis en Cave” collection are genuine treasures. They bear witness to the great maturation potential of non-vintage champagnes. Charles Heidsieck now unveils its 4th edition of “Mis en Cave” with Non-Vintage Bruts from the 1986 to 2000 harvests.
The wines
With only 420 units available worldwide, the “Mis en Caves” trio set 1990, 1995 and 2000 Brut Crayères contains a bottle cellared in 1990 and disgorged in 1993, a bottle cellared in 1995 and disgorged in 2000, as well as a bottle cellared in 2000 and disgorged in 2004.
The result of a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier, the Charles Heidsieck Brut Mis en Caves 1990 reveals a fruity and harmonious expression combined with subtle flinty mineral notes and the freshness of minty nuances.
The Charles Heidsieck Brut Mis en Caves 1995 charms with its indulgence and refinement. Blended from 38% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 23% Pinot Meunier, this champagne, with notes of black fruits, summer fruits and spices, envelops the palate with its smooth, caressing texture, stretching out into a mineral finish.
The Charles Heidsieck Brut Mis en Caves 2000 is crafted from a blend of 41% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 19% Pinot Meunier. With remarkable aromatic complexity, the nose first reveals candied fruit notes, then floral hints, before bringing out roasted aromas, dried fruits, and delicious salted caramel notes. On the palate, it gradually unfolds a superb breadth of texture, lingering long in a silky finish.
