Lallier : Reflexion R.020 Brut

The power of the 2020 vintage shows here with some firm, structured Pinot Noir from Aÿ, but Dominique Demarville’s choice to lead with plenty of Chardonnay gives his first blend for Lallier a delicate, zesty side too, accented by a tiny touch of barrel complexity behind pear tart, apricot kernel and sweet raspberry fragrance. There’s plenty to chew on in the fruit of the base vintage, yet the style stays focused on clarity and purity – refreshment, rather than weight, is the aim. 51% Chardonnay and 49% Pinot Noir, based on the 2020 harvest with 19% reserve wines from the previous two years and 5% oak fermentation.

The NV Brut Réflexion R.020 blends 51% Chardonnay and 49% Pinot Noir, primarily from the 2020 vintage. The subtle nose suggests fresh challah bread, a sensation that strengthens on the palate where Pinot Noir's structure becomes apparent. The frothy mousse allows the wine's silkiness to shine and underlines its slenderness. While 2020 imparts a certain mildness, the finish remains bright and vivid. An elegant and light apero style! Pale straw yellow with silver reflections and a light mousse. Fresh white tropical fruit, a hint of cherimoya, some watermelon and a touch of lime zest on the nose. The palate is lean, with white pome fruit, a subtle fruit sweetness and an integrated acidity. There's a hint of pineapple and blossom honey in the aftertaste. (Disgorged 10/23, PM).
