Alison Napjus

A leesy, linear version that's chalky in texture, with notes of peach yogurt, almond paste, mandarin orange peel and smoke framed by firm acidity, which nudges this in an austere direction. Pairing this with food would help with balance. Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Disgorged October 2021. Drink now. 2,200 cases made, 105 cases imported.

The NV Brut Accord Majeur is blended from 80% Pinot Meunier, and 10% each of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; 73% are from the 2015 vintage and completed by 27% of perpetual reserve. Smooth creaminess wraps itself around blue plum notes on the nose. Gentle mousse accentuates rye bread touches on a rounded, rather loose body. Smooth yet fresh, with just a touch of umami on the finish. Dosage is 5 g/L. Disgorged: June 2022. - Anne Krebiehl MW

The Champagne Accord Majeur Brut from Lancelot Pienne is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir, along with equal parts Chardonnay and Meunier, primarily from the 2015 vintage. A bright yellow hue, it has a fruit-forward profile on the nose with aromas of ripe apricots, chalky earth, toasted bread, and citrus oils. It continues to the palate seamlessly with a frothy mousse, a generous juicy feel, and a clean and ripe finish. It’s a charming and approachable Champagne to enjoy now or over the next few years. Disgorged in October 2021, with 5 grams per liter dosage.

Classic, precise style, with a few tertiary notes adding depth. The Meunier brings suppleness and smoothness on the attack, leading to freshness on the finish. Well built.

A beautiful golden-yellow colour, with a palette of leafy, autumnal notes and a veil of freshly cut mushroom; the Meunier accentuates this character but the wine remains relaxed. The palate is broad and rich, and the whole offers good length and lovely persistence.

Description

A champagne expressing its terroir of origin with authenticity

The producer

Founded over 120 years ago, the Lancelot Pienne Champagne House has been producing, from generation to generation, vintages that authentically express the richness and refinement of the Champagne terroir. With a wealth of experience in different houses, Jean-Baptiste Lancelot, a passionate winegrower, decided at the end of the Second World War to produce his own wines. A few years later, one of his sons married Brigitte Pienne and the house of Lancelot Pienne was born. Carrying out a perpetual quest for authenticity and excellence, Lancelot Pienne is a family-run, independent house that is renowned for the precision and richness of its champagnes, which are regarded as "vins d'auteur".

The vineyard

Historically established in the heart of the Champagne region, near Cramant, Lancelot Pienne reigns over an 8.30-hectare vineyard that spreads over the terroirs of the Côte des Blancs and the Marne Valley.

The wine

Lancelot Pienne's Accord Majeur comes from vineyards located on the hillsides to the south of Epernay. The vines are 50 years old on average and are planted on clay-limestone soils.

Vinification and ageing

This wine is vinified in small temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out at a temperature of 18-20°C. 100% malolactic fermentation. Blend of 70% of the 2013 harvest and 30% of reserve wines. This champagne is aged for 5 years in the chalky cellars of the family-owned house. Disgorgement is carried out 6 to 9 months before being released and the dosage is 5 g/litre.

The blend

Lancelot Pienne's Accord Majeur is a blend of Pinot Meunier (70%), Chardonnay (20%) and Pinot Noir (10%).
