Description
A delicate and aromatic vintage Blanc de Blancs champagne
The estate
Located on the Côte des Blancs terroir, the Larmandier-Bernier Champagne House has been growing vines for over 8 generations. Since 1988, Pierre Larmandier has been in charge of the 16-hectare family-owned estate, running it with the ambition of producing exceptional vintages that authentically express the purity of the Champagne region.
The vines are 33 years old on average and have been cultivated for more than 20 years using biodynamic practices and with the utmost respect for the terroir. No chemical products, ploughing, wild yeasts, long ageing period on lees in barrels and tuns, these are the decisive choices that give Larmandier-Bernier wines a rare and unique minerality and expression of the terroir.
The wine
In 1995, after tasting the clear wines from various south-east facing plots of land situated in the middle of the Vertus hillside, Pierre and Sophie Larmandier decided to make a new wine. Terre de Vertus Premier Cru Non-Dosé Blanc de Blancs by Larmandier-Bernier thus reveals the noble expression of Chardonnay grapes that stem from a single year and a single terroir (Les Barillers). This champagne is not dosed in order to fully express the purity and minerality of its terroir.
Vinification and ageing
Gentle pressing before settling and racking. Natural alcoholic fermentation then malolactic fermentation in barrels and tuns, along with the first year of ageing on lees before bottling. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 5 years in the coolness of the house’s cellars. Disgorgement is carried out 6 months before releasing onto the market.
The blend
Terre de Vertus Premier Cru Non-Dosé Blanc de Blancs 2015 by Larmandier-Bernier is a 100% Chardonnay.
