Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Château d'Yquem 2016
Tasting
Nose
The nose reveals a rich and remarkably precise aromatic palette. Invigorating notes of white fruit and flowers gradually give way to the generosity of exotic fruit aromas, evoking mango, vanilla and beeswax.
Palate
On the palate, Château d'Yquem 2016 offers a complex and generous sweetness, releasing delightful sensations of exotic fruit, candied fruit and a delicate hint of caramel. Strikingly pure and elegant, the texture preserves the finesse characteristic of the Yquem style, carried by a vibrant, energetic acidity that stretches the length towards a radiantly fresh finish. A remarkable Château d'Yquem of great complexity and undeniable refinement, with the ageing potential befitting the great Sauternes.
A Distinguished and Refined Château d'Yquem in an Elegant Gift Box Designed by Julie Serre
The estate
Located south of Bordeaux, Château d'Yquem ranks among the most prestigious names in the great wines of Sauternes. This illustrious Premier Cru Classé Supérieur benefits from an outstanding terroir and produces sweet wines that are renowned and sought after across the globe.
The vineyard
Château d'Yquem is an exceptional estate, nestled among the hills of the Sauternes appellation, with around one hundred hectares of vines planted across a range of terroirs with gravelly and sandy soils.
The vintage
Marked by a remarkably hot and dry summer, the illustrious Château d'Yquem 2016 stands out for its clarity and elegant lightness, reinforcing its reputation as an icon among the great names of Sauternes, an essential appellation of the Bordeaux region.
The estate unveils "The art of gifting", an edition of the 2016 vintage presented in a refined and elegant gift box created in collaboration with the artist Julie Serre. A Parisian artist and art director, Julie Serre places drawing at the heart of her practice, creating meticulous works in which every stroke and every line composes a story.
Winemaking and ageing
Begun on 27 September 2016, the harvest continued until 4 November, with 4 successive passes through the vineyard, and approximately 75% of the crop was brought in during the final two weeks. The making of the blend reflects absolute rigour during winemaking, retaining only the finest berries touched by noble rot and displaying ideal acidity levels. The result is a worthy reflection of the investment and care devoted by the technical teams of Château d'Yquem, under the leadership of the talented Francis Mayeur.
