Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Cuvée des Cadettes 2022 from Château La Nerthe
Tasting
Colour
The colour is intense and dark, with purple highlights, brilliant and dense.
Nose
The nose reveals aromas of dark fruit, led by blackberry and blackcurrant, enhanced by spicy, minty and eucalyptus notes, along with hints of garrigue and a touch of musk, all wrapped in well-integrated oak.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is dense and spicy, carried by tight yet precise tannins. Notes of liquorice and a subtle animal touch accompany a solid structure, leading to a long, fresh and at times saline finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs ideally with game and well-aged meats, whose texture and intensity echo the wine's density and tannic structure.
Serving and Cellaring
We recommend decanting the Cuvée des Cadettes 2022 before serving it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, to allow its aromas to express themselves fully. This wine can be kept until around 2038.
A Dense, Spicy Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Château La Nerthe
The Estate
Château La Nerthe is a wine estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the southern Rhône Valley, whose winegrowing history began in 1560 with the acquisition of the Grange de Beauvenir by the Tulle de Villefranche family. Since 1985, the estate has belonged to the Richard family, who restored the château and converted the entire vineyard to organic farming, certified by Ecocert since 1998. The estate now extends over 92 hectares in a single block, divided into 57 plots, and remains one of the few historic châteaux in the appellation.
The Vineyard
The Cuvée des Cadettes comes from the oldest plots of Château La Nerthe, replanted at the end of the 19th century by Commandant Joseph Ducos after the phylloxera crisis. These old Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre vines are rooted in the typical soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, combining rolled pebbles on the surface with clay and sand at depth, on an estate farmed organically. The grapes are harvested by hand, plot by plot, in order to respect the optimal ripeness of each grape variety.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage is characterised by a sunny, warm character, which allowed the grape varieties to reach full ripeness while requiring precise winemaking to preserve the freshness of the wine.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Cuvée des Cadettes 2022 is vinified in truncated conical wooden vats, which encourage gradual, controlled extraction of tannins. Ageing continues for twelve months, half in large oak foudres and half in new barriques, to bring structure and aromatic complexity while preserving the expression of the fruit.
Grape Varieties
This cuvée is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
