James Suckling

Stuart Pigott

This giant of granitic minerality also has incredible intensity of Amalfi lemon and lemon blossom aromas wrapped around its stony heart. Very compact yet graceful, then the wet-stone minerality expands and expands in the finish. From 2.2 hectares of vines ranging from 15 to more than 60 years of age. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Vinous

Anne Krebiehl, MW

The 2023 Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru from this iconic granite site shines with superbly aromatic lemon-edged Mirabelle, the result of a yield of just 17 hl/ha. Malolactic fermentation was avoided in this stainless-steel fermented wine, adding only to its superb, piercing linearity that speak so well of that hard granite. There is a touch of pepper within that lovely, aromatic zestiness that only underlines its purity, precision and poise. (Bone-dry)

Vinum

In the glass, lemon-coloured with golden highlights, it reveals on the nose and palate a complex aromatic interplay of jackfruit, mandarin, honey, lemon balm, bergamot, lemon verbena, subtle floral notes and a hint of flint. Delicately expressive and overall well-balanced, it is long with a slightly textured feel, showing elegance and lightness. It will gain further complexity over the coming years. Decanting recommended.
