Description
A red Burgundy from old vines in the Côte de Nuits
The estate
Domaine des Perdrix is a Burgundy wine estate based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the Côte de Nuits. It was taken over in 1996 by the Devillard family, who have owned Château de Chamirey in the Côte Chalonnaise since 1934. The estate stands out for its high proportion of Premiers and Grands Crus, with a near-monopoly on the Premier Cru Nuits-Saint-Georges "Aux Perdrix" and parcels in the heart of the Grand Cru Échezeaux. It is now run by Bertrand Devillard and his children Amaury and Aurore, who head all of the Domaines Devillard in Burgundy.
The vineyard
This Bourgogne comes from old vines located in the commune of Premeaux-Prissey, south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the Côte de Nuits. Planted between 1956 and 1965, these parcels sit on predominantly clay-limestone soils with a high clay content and are planted at a traditional density of 10,000 vines per hectare. The estate applies the same exacting standards of vineyard work here as on its Premiers and Grands Crus, using sustainable viticulture that aims to limit interventions and preserve the natural balance of the terroir.
Grape variety
This 2024 Bourgogne rouge from Domaine des Perdrix is crafted from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of the Côte de Nuits, grown here on the old vines of Premeaux-Prissey.
