Decanter

Possesses a lovely, dark cassis fruit, with a smoky, mineral edge and very firm tannins that lead to a lingering finish. Among the best wines in the cellar here. Rebourseau has a spectacular 2.21ha parcel in the centre of the Clos, mostly in the Quartier de Marei Bas, south from the old vines of Château de la Tour. The wine in 2020 was much more precious than even 2019, but yields were limited. It was picked from the 24th August and mostly destemmed.

Bettane+Desseauve

This is the most accomplished cru of the estate in this vintage. The vines in the center of the clos have delivered that violet and mauve-flower aroma that is the hallmark of the great Clos de Vougeot. A subtle, racy finish of great elegance.

Description

A fine and expressive Clos de Vougeot Grand cru

The estate

Founded in 1782 and present in 9 Burgundian appellations, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is one of the estates which owns the most extensive surface area of Grands Crus in the Côte de Nuits. The estate hails its exceptional heritage-filled vines, resting on land that has been cultivated for over 1400 years. Today, the de Surrel family watch over this exceptional heritage by carrying out organic and biodynamic farming practices. Thus, there is no "Rebourseau taste" and the quality-oriented approach emphasises the crucial part that the ''climat'' plays in the production of fine wines.

The vineyard

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2020 stems from the eponymous walled vineyard. Domaine Henri Rebourseau's 2.21-hectare plot is home to 41-year-old vines located in the upper part of the emblematic Burgundy winegrowing area, on a gentle slope where the soil is rich in gravel and limestone as well as clay.

The wine

This Clos Vougeot wine stems from a terroir with an extraordinary history. In 1855, four Burgundy grand crus were classifed "hors ligne" : Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Romanée Conti and Clos Vougeot.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage was marked by an unprecedentedly rainy start to the season in Burgundy, caused by sunny conditions and higher than normal seasonal temperatures. The winter rains replenished ground water which could then compensate the lack of rainfall during the growing season. Unfortunately, a short rainy period disrupted flowering leaving a notably low yield. Despite that, the grapes matured under excellent conditions and ripened up to the harvest, gradually developing remarkable tannins.

Winemaking and ageing

The macerations led to colourful and balanced wines with great ageing potential. Minimal intervention was chosen during the rapid vinification process for this vintage.

Blend

Pinot noir (100%).
