Description
A lively, aromatic white wine from California
The estate
Located in the Rutherford AVA in Napa Valley, Inglenook is a wine estate founded in 1879 by Gustave Niebaum, a Finnish sea captain. The estate's wines quickly earned recognition for their quality and richness.
From 1975 onwards, Francis and Eleanor Coppola gradually acquired the entire estate, with the ambition of making Inglenook an iconic benchmark for Californian wines. The couple spearheaded major renovation work on the facilities and brought in the renowned winemaker André Tchelistcheff as a consultant, as well as Philippe Bascaules of Château Margaux to oversee the winemaking.
A pioneering estate constantly in pursuit of innovation, Inglenook stands out for its singular and authentic expression of great terroirs, through delicate, refined and perfectly balanced wines. These wines have been acclaimed by numerous critics, as evidenced by the 100/100 score awarded by Wine Spectator in 1990 to the Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon 1941.
The vineyard
Inglenook tends a 95-hectare vineyard, certified organic since 1991. The vineyard's varied topography reflects the mosaic of terroirs found in Napa Valley and contributes to Inglenook's distinctive character. In 2015, the estate launched an ambitious replanting programme covering an average of 2% of the vineyard each year, ensuring its continual renewal.
The wine
Produced since 1999, Inglenook's Blancaneaux is a Rutherford wine made from a blend of three Rhône Valley grape varieties, grown on estate plots that enjoy morning sunshine as well as the cooling shade of Mount St. John in the mid-afternoon. The body and minerality imparted by Marsanne and Roussanne combine with the intense tropical fruit aromas of Viognier.
Winemaking and ageing
Aged for 8 months on lees in stainless steel tanks (60%) and French oak barrels (40%), 22% of which are new.
Blend
Viognier (36%)
