Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Terres Dorées "Les Garants" 2021 by Jean-Paul Brun

Tasting

Colour
The glass reveals a beautiful, vibrant red colour.

Nose
Intense and refined, the bouquet exudes generous aromas of red fruits such as strawberry and blackcurrant. It then opens onto delicate floral notes reminiscent of rose and iris, subtly enhanced by herbal and spicy touches.

Palate
Rich and generous, the palate seduces with its intensely fruity expression, dominated by cherry, morello cherry and redcurrant. Supported by a lovely acidity and well-balanced tannins, it extends into a long, precise finish, marked by a granitic minerality and subtle nuances of liquorice.

Food and wine pairing

Highly versatile, this red wine pairs wonderfully with herb-roasted poultry, coq au vin or white meats. It also goes very well with grilled fish, mushroom-based dishes, fine charcuterie and vegetable-rich preparations.

Service and storage

This 2021 vintage can be enjoyed in its youth for its vibrant fruitiness, but it will continue to develop all its complexity in the cellar. It is ideal to drink until around 2033.

The mineral elegance of a great Fleurie wine

The estate

Founded in 1979 by Jean-Paul Brun with just four hectares, the Domaine des Terres Dorées is located in Charnay-en-Beaujolais. Having become an essential reference in the Beaujolais region, the vineyard now spans around fifty hectares. Renowned for its traditional, Burgundy-inspired approach and its deep respect for the terroir, the estate was recently acquired by the Zannier family. However, the founder continues to support the property to ensure the continuity of this artisanal philosophy and the quality of its cuvées.

The vineyard

Hailing from the Fleurie appellation, this cuvée comes from a plot of around six hectares facing south and overlooking the village. Sheltered by the La Madone hill, the vines, around forty years old and trained in gobelet on stakes, thrive on sandy soils formed from the weathering of pink granite. This distinctive terroir gives the wine all its floral delicacy and mineral structure.

The vintage

The year was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions, including frost episodes, hail and cooler-than-average temperatures. These climatic challenges delayed the growing cycle, pushing flowering back to mid-June, but ultimately allowed for the harvest of well-balanced grapes.

Winemaking and aging

After rigorous sorting, the grapes are fully destemmed and crushed. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, followed by a maceration period of around four weeks punctuated by regular punching down. Aging then takes place over nearly ten months in used oak barrels and concrete vats, during which malolactic fermentation occurs, accompanied by regular lees stirring to enrich the wine's texture.
