The estate

Located at the southern entrance of the village of Saint-Émilion, Château La Gaffelière, a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, bears witness to very ancient origins. Mosaics discovered during excavations attest to the presence of vines on the estate since the Gallo-Roman era. Owned by the de Malet Roquefort family for over three centuries and situated in the “golden triangle” between the hillsides of châteaux Pavie and Ausone, Château La Gaffelière embodies the excellence of the great red wines of Saint-Émilion.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château La Gaffelière covers 38 hectares, 22 of which are classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé. This vineyard spans 3 different zones. These include the famed asteriated limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, the clayey molasse outcrops of the Fronsadais, and deep carbonated sands. The vineyard of Château La Gaffelière is managed using sustainable viticulture, favoring the gentlest intervention methods.

1989: A round, powerful vintage with beautiful length. “One of my greatest achievements,” says Léo de Malet Roquefort.

1990: “A unique power and richness,” in the continuity of the trilogy of the 1988 and 1989 vintages.

2001: A vintage in the shadow of 2000, “but even better,” according to Léo de Malet Roquefort.

2006: One of Léo de Malet Roquefort’s favorite vintages. A vintage with very pronounced red-fruit notes, “to drink now.”

2010: After the incredible 2009, nature renewed its blessings in 2010. A vintage combining beautiful ripe-fruit notes with a persistent minerality worthy of the great limestone terroirs. “Among the best vintages of the century.”

2018: “My 60th harvest at La Gaffelière!” A wine typical of the great vintages of the 1950s and 1960s, marked by finesse and great freshness. On this occasion, the label from the 1959 vintage, the first vintage made by Léo de Malet Roquefort, was reissued.
