Decanter

From three parcels totaling 0.96ha, all in Mazy-Bas; one plot is very high on the slope, while the other two are almost touching the Clos de Bèze. The vineyard delivered marvellous results in 2019, with dark cassis fruit, a strong mineral undercurrent and a prominent savoury, saline note. On the palate, the wine shows impressive tension and tannic grip, with a rewardingly persistent finish. The wine is mostly destemmed and aged in Taransaud T5 casks.

The 2019 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru is very plush on the nose, maybe showing just a little sur-maturité compared to the Charmes-Chambertin. The palate has darker fruit, fine acidity and purity. It is quite luscious, rounded and velvety in texture. Dark plum and just a touch of prune emerge on the finish. Fine.

Bruce Sanderson

A spicy red highlighted by ripe plum, kirsch and cassis flavors, with soft acidity and lush tannins diffusing its impact. Charming, with a long finish, this one sneaks up on you. Drink now through 2038.

Description

A Burgundy Grand Cru that blends power, opulence and finesse

The estate

Founded in 1782 and present in 9 Burgundian appellations, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is one of the estates which owns the most extensive surface area of Grands Crus in the Côte de Nuits. The estate hails its exceptional heritage-filled vines, resting on land that has been cultivated for over 1400 years. Today, the de Surrel family watch over this exceptional heritage by carrying out organic and biodynamic farming practices. Thus, there is no unique "Rebourseau taste" and the quality-oriented approach emphasises the crucial part that the ''climat'' plays in the production of fine wines.

The vineyard

Domaine Henri Rebourseau spreads across the Côte de Nuits, emblematic Burgundy terroir.

The wine

This Mazis-Chambertin Grand cru stems from its eponymous walled vineyard on a 0.96 hectare plot. This terroir shelters 41-year-old vines resting on a slope made up of limestone and rock. The position is protected by the village from north winds. This appellation is recognised for being one of the most complex of Gevrey, etched with its subtelty.
