Falstaff

Falstaff

Medium salmon pink, delicate pinkish glints, silver touch, persistent, creamy mousse. A crisp biscuity tone underpins red fruit nuances such as sweetheart cherries, pineberries, white flowers, orange zest, and a sprig of fresh mint. On the palate, vibrant freshness is embraced with dark forest berries, but also cranberries mingled with herbs such as thyme and rosemary, as well as a slight honey-nuanced core. The wine offers an ethereal quality, accentuated by soft toasted aromas on the finish, resulting in great length, and mineral reverberations. An accessible, multifaceted food companion with ageing potential.

Robert Parker

William Kelley

The newly released 2008 Dom Pérignon Rosé is a dramatic, perfumed wine, bursting with aromas of blood orange, iodine, sweet citrus fruit, peach and pear mingled with hints of buttered toast, smoke and spices. Full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a pillowy mousse, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish. It derives its intense hue from red wine produced from Pinot Noir grown in lieux-dits Chants de Linottes in Hautvillers and Vauzelles in Aÿ.

Wine Spectator

Alison Napjus

An impeccably balanced and graceful sparkling rosé, with a plushly creamy mousse. It's hard to tell where the firm spine of well-honed acidity and the expressive range of pureed raspberry, candied ginger, tangerine and lemon thyme flavors begin or end. A rich hint of smoky toasted brioche plays on the finish. Drink now through 2033.

James Suckling

This is a superb Champagne with roses, strawberries and orange peel on the nose, then it’s medium-bodied with raciness and beauty. Drink now or hold.

La RVF

A high-quality wine with fine aromatics: forest fruits, wild berries, spices, pink grapefruit peel, and the delicate toasted reductive note that is the hallmark of the estate’s wines. The palate is balanced and flavorful. A wine with excellent scale and length.

Description

Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2008, The Thrill of the Unknown

The producer

Dom Pérignon Champagne owes its name to Pierre Perignon, the famous monk and cellar master of the Abbey of Hautvillers in 1668, also known as Dom Pérignon. Legend says that Pierre Pérignon discovered what is known today as the Champagne method. Dom Pérignon is a luminous champagne house that is directly inspired by its founder's philosophy, which is to seek the ultimate perfection of champagne wine.

The vineyard

Dom Pérignon cultivates vines that comprise the Champagne region’s three main grape varieties, namely Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Stemming from absolutely exceptional terroirs, their champagnes are renowned for their quality.

The wine

When Dom Pérignon chooses to be a rosé champagne, it is about being bold: daring to break free from the conventions of champagne production, and constantly pushing back the boundaries of creativity.

Springing from the burning desire to stand out from the crowd, Dom Pérignon Rosé captures the original brilliance of red Pinot Noir and its complexity in a bold and assertive blend. During over 12 years, this champagne is the result of a slow and masterful transformation in the cellar, Dom Pérignon Rosé is intense and spontaneous, light yet dark, magnetic.

The vintage

A grey and cloudy sky hangs over 2008, a unique year in an incredibly giving and sunny decade. Spring and summer were also marked by lack of light and low temperatures. The month of September, belatedly and miraculously, made the vintage. When the harvest began (15th of September), the weather conditions were finally perfect: blazing sunlight and strong north/north-east winds. In order to best take advantage of such a turn of events, the harvest was spread out. The ripeness levels of the grapes had exceeded all expectations, presenting an unprecedented balance. The state of health is impeccable.

The tasting

Nose

The bouquet opens instantly with raspberry and wild strawberry. Pesistent powdery notes of iris and violet immediately blend with the fruit aromas. When breathing in the aromas, we finally notice the emergence of greener nuances, evoking privet, angelica and camphor leaf.

Palate

The initial sensations are tactile, full-bodied and silky. They gradually unfold, becoming more firm. The acidic framework, the signature of the vintage, weaves itself into the structure of the Pinot Noir and reveals the very core of the wine. The finish is assertive and lingers with notes of peony and white pepper.
